Bad Blogger!

So as many people have told me,  I suck at blogging (thanks Becki and Matt). Since Nolan's one month, many things have happened...

His cousin Quinn was born...

Nolan turned 2 months old...
Quinn was baptized (Kaylee and I are Godmothers)...
Nolan turned 3 months old (and Halloween happened!)...
His cousin Elsa turned 1...
Thanksgiving happened...

Nolan turned 4 months old...
And Christmas happened!
The Christmas outfit quickly got dirty!
Other things happened too, such as me going back to work, Nolan sleeping through the night (yay!), and I'm sure I missed some other events. I promise to try to be a better blogger!  Merry Christmas everyone!

One month old!!!

Nolan is one month old!!! Well, actually, he is 6 weeks tomorrow.  It is crazy how fast this time has gone by.  We brought Nolan in for his one month check-up last week, and to quote Dr. Hauffe, he is perfect!  Which we already knew as his parents, but it is nice to hear someone else say it :)  He weighed 9 lbs 13.5 oz (45th percentile), was 20 5/8 inches long (14th percentile, short, like his parents), and his head was in the 90th percentile range! It has been an amazing first month and we can't wait to celebrate many more :)

Daddy's Birthday!

Today is Chuche's 34th birthday!!  Nolan and I are both so blessed to have him in our lives.  Throughout the pregnancy, Chuche was there for me and always willing to go the extra mile to make my life a little easier.  Then, during the loooooong and painful labor, Chuche was my rock and stayed strong for me.  Now, as a Dad, he is amazing.   He takes midnight feedings when he doesn't have to work, he changes diapers, does laundry, and overall is just an awesome husband and dad.  I don't know what I would do without him!  Happy Birthday, Chuche!!! We love you!

Three weeks old!

Today, Nolan is 3 weeks old!  He has had lots of visitors and has made a trip home to Hollowayville and DePue.  Overall, he is a great baby :)  Mommy and Daddy are both tired, but love spending time with their little man.  Here are some pictures from over the past couple weeks:

Non-Stop Excitement

The excitement did not stop with the birth of Nolan.  From the day after he was born, I had been battling a severe headache.  We thought it might have to do with my blood pressure and were treating it that way.  Unfortunately, it soon became clear it was more than that.
On Monday, we brought Nolan to see Dr. Hauffe to check his bilirubin levels.  Sadly, those were high again, so Nolan had to get more lab work done.  It was so hard watching him get his heel stuck.  I also decided it was time to do something about my headache.  My mom and Chuche had been suggesting it was from the (failed) epidural, and when I called the nurse and described my symptoms, she agreed.  She said if I stopped by the emergency room, they would be able to do a procedure there that would fix the pain.  I was all for this! I had Chuche drop me off at around 11:30 so he could go home with Nolan and I said I would call him to come pick me up.
Unfortunately, given my bad luck, the procedure was unsuccessful.  This was not enjoyable because not only did I spend 5.5 hours in the ER waiting to get this done, but I also had to redo the epidural procedure and be poked with an IV needle about 6 more times before they realized they were unable to get enough blood to do the procedure.  After having a mini-breakdown and my mom threatening to come to Champaign and kick some ass, I was sent home with a prescription for caffeine/pain meds, lots of fluids, and a promise that the headache would eventually go away on its own.
Thankfully, the meds seem to do their job as long as I take them in time!  For the first time since Nolan was born, I am not battling a headache and it makes life so much easier!  We went to a follow up for Nolan's bili level and his levels were down too!  So overall, things are looking up! I am so thankful for all the support I have.  I am so blessed to have an amazing husband and a family that is constantly there to help me. Being a Mom is already hard work, but completely worth it :)

Nolan Antonio Cervantes- born July 31st, 2014

Nolan is here and we are so in love already! On Tuesday, I had a doctor's appointment. I was having a headache and blood pressure was high, so my doctor had me do some bloodwork. Chuche and I got home at around 12:15, then got the call at 4 with the doctor saying protein was high in my blood. Since the baby was already 38 weeks, he decided to induce, to lessen the risk. So at 6 pm on the 29th, Chuche and I were heading to the hospital. They started one medicine at 8 that night, but things didn't really start moving until the next day. At around 10 the next morning, they started the pitocin to start the contractions. 2 epidurals, the doctor bursting the water, and a very long night later, Nolan Antonio Cervantes made his arrival at 8:19 am! He is a healthy 8 pounds, 20.5 inches long, and has his daddy's ears! We are so grateful for all the family and friends who gave us support in so many ways! Here are some of the family visitors.
Just chilling...

Unfortunately, Uncle E drove all the way to Champaign, but Nolan decided to wait until after Uncle E had to go back to Bloomington to work. But Nolan got to meet his Uncle E and Aunt Carrie this weekend :) However, he also got diagnosed with a high level of bilirubin, so instead of hanging out with them, and Aunt Lori and Memaw, Nolan spent some time tanning under UV lights to help break up the bili levels.
Uncle E and Daddy telling Nolan he needs to turn over to even his tan :) Aunt Carrie was photographer.
Styling.... and holds his own pacifier!
Elsa came too, but she had to hang out in the waiting room...

The tanning helped and Nolan and I came home on Saturday!
